Wednesday's roundup:
South vs. North: Lady Tigers on Top
* Minneapolis South 58, Minneapolis North 45: In this statement game, two things were apparent. First, Tyisha Smith's explosive blow-by speed is back. Second, Smith played without a knee brace. So, gPrep can officially say, S-H-E'S B-A-C-K! You may recall, Smith suffered a torn ACL back in March 2009 in the State Championship game. Until now, she wore a knee brace. Tonight Smith looked like the dominant player, who terrorized opponents for three years at South. Smith dominated the game with her speed and quickness. The senior guard finished with 17 points. But most importantly, Smith put South on her shoulders and carried the Lady Tigers to a big-win against a hungry North team. Ameshia Kearney also played lights-out and finished with 16 points. Cy'erra Mills led North with 19 points and ninth grader Talayiah Rich Howard added 12.
* Southwest 45, Cooper 31: Southwest (10-9) used a 30-18 second half run to beat Cooper (1-14). The Lakers were led by Sophomore Guard Mariah Adanene's 22 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
