Dec 07, 2013 Hopkins, MN. -- It was a great day ofbasketball at the Breakdown Tip Off Classic. The annual event featured 12 girls games and 24 teams including the #1 teams in all four classes, Hopkins 4A, Fergus Falls 3A, NRHEG 2A and Mt. Iron-Buhl 1A. Fifteen of the 24 girls teams are ranked, and a boat load of the players are D1 prospects. Many are ranked among the best in Minnesota.  There were many standouts & MVP’s who caught gPrep's eye for their performances on the hardwood.

Carlie Wagner 5'9" G 2014 NRHEG

Carlie Wagner 5'9" G  2014 NRHEG  MVP

Carlie Wagner, 5'9", G,  2014 NRHEG. The Gophers should be smiling because Wagner is college ready right now. She is already strong and powerful, plus Wagner’s pull-up jumper is very quick and smooth. She stops on a dime. Think Stephen Curry. The senior "Miss Basketball" candidate poured in 40 points in the 81-67 win vs. Mt. Iron-Buhl.

Ashley Bates 5'9" G/F 2016 Hopkins HS

Bates scored 28 points in the 67-57 win vs. Anoka. Bates is a fearless and relentless competitor. In one play, Bates sprinted down the court and made a defensive stop on one end and then sprinted back to receive a "dime" by teammate Nia Hollie to make a layup. Right now, Bates is Hopkins’ leading scorer.

Cayla McMorris 5'11" Point-Forward  2014 Park Center HS

McMorris led PC to probably its most important win in 4 years. They beat Class 4A power and #2 ranked Bloomington Kennedy 64-59. The Wisconsin signee put PC on her back and carried them to a big victory. The senior forward was able to score at will and finished with 25 points.

Bailey Strand 5'7" G 2014 Fergus Falls HS

I didn't see this one coming when Bailey Strand and Fergus Falls raced out to a 41-18 halftime lead vs. SMA. Strand drained four 3-pointers in the first half and finished with a game high 38 points. Strand is a blue collar guard with skills and the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter and beyond the arc. MVP.

Bailey Strand 5'7" G 2014 Fergus Falls HS

Bailey Strand  MVP

Jill Conrad  5'9" Post  2014 Centennial HS

Crafty. Conrad is a match-up problem because of her inside-outside game. Though not your fastest or quickest player on the court, Conrad understands the art of ball and subtle head fakes. She is also adept at finishing around the basket. Conrad finished with a game high 27 points in the 61-49 win vs. Minnetonka. MVP.

Madison Guebert  5'9" G  2015 Eastview HS

An outside shooter with a quick release, Guebert has a mature game and a strong scoring mentality, as was evident at the Breakdown. Guebert finished with 18 points in a tightly contested game that ended in the 52-50 win vs. Chaska. She has added some size and strength to her frame. Able to create and score off the dribble, Guebert has good passing skills. MVP.
