“Basketball Goal: Play for a Division One School.”

Wahlin posted those eight words on her wall years ago.  And, she’s been dribbling toward her goal every since. “I’ve always had goals of playing Division One basketball. And that’s what I’ve worked hard for and that’s what I’ve always kept in mind when I  go to the gym. Now I’ve finally accomplished my goal “, said Wahlin.

The 5’8” elite point guard will play Big Ten basketball for the University Of Iowa.Walhin said “When I went to Iowa something kind of felt right and it just felt good for me. I liked Iowa a lot. I liked the coaches, the team and the campus. It feels good to have my decision made and to know where I am going next year.”

Wahlin is one of Minnesota’s most complete players. In the three years as a starter for Crookston,  the Pirates are 76-14 with Wahlin as point
guard. Last season Wahlin averaged 20 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 4 steals per game. She is the school record holder in assists and steals
and is already Crookston’s all-time leading scorer with 1,660 points after her junior season.

As a sophomore, Wahlin averaged 17.1 points per game and led the Pirates  to the state championship game, where Crookston finished second to Cannon Falls.  Wahlin’s great play earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. “I give my teammates so much credit for me being able to
have success we’ve had as sophomores and even last year.  We didn’t make it to state but we had a very good year, “ said Wahlin.

So, the Crookston girl with Division One dreams, who put in countless hours in the gym, went “1-on-1” with her brother in the backyard and played AAU basketball for the first time ever this summer is proof positive… the writing really is on the wall.

Way to go Wahlin!
