Pipestone Area 49, Worthington 44 (O.T.) Friday, February 4th, 2011 Pipestone, MN - Pipestone made freethrows when they needed to and a steal and layup by Senior Bree Woelber sent the Arrows to a key 49-44 victory over Worthington in Southwest Conference action. The Arrows led at halftime 21-20, but the Worthington Trojans built as much as an eight point lead (34-26) with 6:40 remaining in regulation. The Arrows battled back taking the lead late in the game, a three pointer by Katie Litka capped an 8-0 run and gave Pipestone a 40-36 lead. After a Trojan basket and Kirsten Anderson was fouled on a rebound the Worthington junior sank a pair of freethrows to tie the game at 40-all with 1:43 remaining. Pipestone had the ball and chance for the final shot, but a costly turnover gave Worthington the ball back with 9.4 seconds remaining. The Trojans weren\'t able to convert as the game went into overtime. In the extra period Bree Woelber hit a shot early but then both teams went cold for a stretch before Pipestone hit a pair of freethrows to take a 44-40 lead before Worthington\'s Martha Alwal scored on an offensive putback to cut the lead to 44-42. Katie Litka hit a pair of freethrows to put the Arrows up 46-42 and then Bree Woelber took a steal coast to coast for a layup giving Pipestone a six point lead 48-42. One more freethrow by Jamie Lentz pushed the lead to seven in the final ten seconds. Mackenzie Gerber hit a jumper at the buzzer for the Trojans but it the Arrows who came out with the win in the Southwest Conference 49-44. Pipestone was led by Katie Litka with 22 points (including five 3-pointers). While Bree Woelber added 16 points (10-12 at the freethrow line)for the Arrows. Worthington was led by Martha Alwal with 21 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks. While Mackenzie Gerber had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the Trojans.
